DSpace 7.3 is now available!

We are pleased to announce the release of DSpace 7.3. As the fourth 7.x release in the last year, we, the community, are committed to provide timely updates to provide new features, security & bug fixes to the 7.x platform.

The 7.3 release meets our 7.x technical roadmap to resolve three Tier 1 priorities, six Tier 2 priorities and one Tier 3 priority. Additional donated features and improvements are also included in this release.

New and improved features include: 

Other fixes include: 

  • Major frontend performance improvements. Initial page load is much quicker
  • Frontend can be run from a subpath (e.g. https://my.university.edu/dspace/)
  • Bug fixes to submission form behavior
  • Upgraded frontend to Angular 13 and backend to Spring Boot 2.6
  • Numerous other bug fixes and improvements. See the Release Notes for details.

New and improved Language support: 

  • Bengali (বাংলা) language added & donated by Md. Topu Raihan (raihantopu)
  • Finnish (Suomi) language updates donated by Reeta Kuuskoski (reetagithub)
  • French (Français) language updates donated by Marie-Hélène Vézina (mhvenzina)
  • German (Deutsch) language updates donated by Sascha Szott (saschaszott) and louiserumpf and Yannick Paulsen (YPaulsen-TLC) and WolfgangT71
  • Turkish (Türkçe) language added & donated by İstanbul Technical University IT Office

A total of 37 individuals contributed to 7.3, with major institutional contributions coming from 4Science and Atmire.

Would you like to contribute towards our next release (7.4)?

DSpace 7.4 will be released in October. While the scope of this release is still being finalized, we welcome contributions from anyone. Contributions may take the form of:

  • Contributing money to our DSpace Development Fund – All funds go directly towards work on the next release, and you will be acknowledged in the Release Notes of that release.
  • Contributing code to 7.4 – As a volunteer developer you can determine which issue ticket you’d like to work on. Please get in touch with Tim Donohue if you have any questions.
