DuraSpace is pleased to announce 4Science will begin offering DuraCloud services as a Certified DuraSpace Partner. This partnership will facilitate delivery of DuraCloud preservation and content storage services in Europe, complying with the European Commission General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and offering application support in additional time zones and languages.

4Science is an active participant of the DSpace open source repository community. The company is a member of the DuraSpace Registered Service Provider (RSP) program, contributes the technical expertise of two committers, participates in the development of the new DSpace 7 Angular UI, leads the REST API Subteam, and served on the Steering Committee for DSpace.

“We’ve had wonderful experiences working with 4Science. They’re excellent open source citizens,” says DuraSpace CEO, Debra Hanken Kurtz. “This partnership with 4Science is the beginning of fulfilling our wish to make open source preservation services available outside of the U.S. with trusted collaborators.”

Susanna Mornati, 4Science’s Chief Operations Officer (COO), says “We are very pleased to help DuraSpace offer this service outside the U.S.A., we are convinced long term digital preservation is a fundamental need both for the research and cultural heritage ecosystems.”

Andrea Bollini, 4Science’s Chief Technical and Innovation Officer (CTIO), says “It is very exciting to work closely with DuraCloud’s great team to face the challenges of long term digital preservation.”

DuraSpace began offering DuraCloud as a service in 2011.  The software was developed by DuraSpace to provide its community with access to a critical preservation services, such as content creation, updates, health checks, deletion, without the need for specialized staff. It also insulates users from variable costs from commercial providers.

More information on the Certified DuraSpace Partner Program will be released in December 2017.
