Lyrasis, the organizational home for the DSpace open source repository software community, will be partnering with 4Science to implement improvements to the ORCID API integration functionality in DSpace, as part of their  2024 ORCID Global Participation Fund grant.

But first: what is the ORCID Global Participation Fund? The GPF aims to provide funds to: foster the development of ORCID Communities of Practice, working with local partners who can build understanding and use of ORCID in local contexts; and create and enhance technical integrations to support the realization of the benefits provided using ORCID.

Lyrasis chose 4Science as implementation partner for the technical integration work needed to improve ORCID functionality for DSpace users around the world and meet ORCID’s integration best practices ORCID provides unique, digital, persistent identifiers for individual researchers. The ORCID API allows users to connect their ORCID iD to their profile in software systems such as DSpace, as well as transfer information from their ORCID record to their profile (such as citations for works stored in a DSpace repository).

4Science is a Certified Platinum Provider of DSpace, lead contributor to the DSpace community worldwide, and the DSpace provider with the highest number of certifications (CERTIFICATIONS AND QUALIFICATIONS – 4Science). Among the prestigious certifications, 4Science is also an ORCID Certified Service Provider.

What 4Science will do?

4Science will improve and enhance the ORCID integration in DSpace 9, anticipating when appropriate some features in DSpace version 7.6 and DSpace 8.

We are very excited about this collaboration as it continues a historical and long-lasting relationship between Lyrasis, ORCID, and 4Science with a shared goal to foster collaboration enhancing Open Science and Open Access initiatives to make  research and scholarly material more accessible, secure, sharable, and FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable).

Stay tuned for the updates on this project, and we can’t wait for users to enjoy these additional features on DSpace!
